U.S. Government — Veterans Affairs and NAEP
Senior Front-End Developer
Built benefits-qualification flows for the Department of Veterans Affairs and the student-facing platform for the National Assessment of Educational Progress.
Context
Two federal programs with unforgiving requirements: one determining whether caregivers qualify for veterans' benefits, the other delivering standardized assessments to 4th, 8th, and 12th-grade students nationwide.
What I owned
- Developed Caregivers functionality determining VA benefits qualification, using React and Redux
- Wrote unit tests with Jest and integration tests with Cypress, collaborating with designers and back-end developers on API strategy
- Developed standardized assessments for 4th, 8th, and 12th-grade students using React, Redux, and TypeScript
- Designed the student login page and contributed to the quiz and question modules, implementing server-side rendering with Next.js
- Collaborated with DevOps on CI/CD pipelines using SonarQube and GitLab CI, and wrote Jest tests for XML parsing of IBIS data
Outcome
Public-sector software held to public-sector scrutiny, with test and pipeline discipline to match.
